The exact opposite issue is if the dryer won’t turn off. The cause of this particular issue is usually either a broken door switch or timer.

TIMER DOESN’T ADVANCE

A dryer timer must advance in order to complete the cycle. If the timer won’t advance, it could mean there’s a broken cycling thermostat or timer motor.
